Saturday 7th July 2019 was warm but overcast for our annual Fund Raising day for a charity chosen by our President Bob Gammie. This year the charity was Changing Pathways,a local charity supporting domestic abuse victims. The day starts off with ‘The Spider’where the jack is placed in the middle of the green, members stand with one foot in the ditch and at a signal all bowl together to see who can get nearest to the jack, it was won this year by our Club Captains grandson. As a visitor, well done. (or just luck?)
Unfortunately our President could not be with us today due to ill health so Rita presented the ‘Trophy’ to Steve who lead the Captain’s team to victory. The Trophy is a framed piece of the second hand carpet the Club started bowling on in Hatfield Peverel Village Hall in the 1990s. (see History)
Looks like a rugby scrum but just sorting the bowls out at the end of ‘The Spider!
Outside players kick off!
The all important raffle.
Club Captain Rita presenting the bottle to her Grandson who won the Spider
A lovely strawberry tea with scones, jam, strawberries and cream laid on by Rita our Club Captain and many helpers, thank you all for a splendid spread, thoroughly enjoyed by over 60 members and friends.
Rita thanked all members and visitors involved on the day which made it a great success, watched in the background our Chairman Derek Wallis.
Another presentation was also made, not connected with the day but important as the teams in the South Essex Bowling League were promoted from the third to second division, well done as they proudly receive their medals.
