TheClub was founded in 1991 when the Parish Council allocated space for a Bowling Green at the sports ground in Wickham Bishops Road.Obviously the newly formed Club was unable to fund such a project immediately but in order to proceed the members began bowling on lengths of SECOND HAND CARPET in the Village Hall.By 1997 having raised the necessary 35% of the total cost, an application was made to the Lottery Fund for the balance to build the new Bowling Green and the adjacent Pavilion large enough to contain four short bowling mats.In 1999 the Club received a grant from Sport England along with other grants from the Foundation of Sport and the Arts, Braintree District Council and the Shell Better Britain Campaign. The Pavilion was started in August 2000 and completed in January 2001. The Bowling Green was started at the same time but to allow the new grass to become established it was not available for playing on until May 2002.
Today it is a thriving Club with almost a hundred members.
Why not come along and give it a try? You might enjoy it!
